Who should do this course?

This course is for food handling personnel or food safety supervisors working in tourism, hospitality and catering organisations with permanent or temporary kitchen premises, and smaller food preparation or bar areas. This unit alone may not meet the food safety supervisor legislative requirements of all states but may contribute as legislative and knowledge requirements may differ across borders.*

What does the course cover?

This unit provides skills to work hygienically when handling food and to ensure the safety of food during its storage, preparation, display, service and disposal. The course is mostly theory based.

How long does the course take?

This is a self paced online course and can be completed at your own pace. However, it must be completed within 4 weeks from commencement.

What certification will students get?

Participants that complete the course will receive a Statement of Attainment for the unit.
Please note that certification requirements apply at a state and territory level to individuals involved in food handling or supervision.
*Some states and territories rely on the achievement of both SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety and SITXFSA002 Participate in safe food handling practices

Where participants have previously completed Food Safety Level 1 unit SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety they may be eligible for additional certification as a Food Safety Supervisor. A Food Safety supervisor statement of attainment may be issued for an additional fee of $20, containing the wording “This unit of competency from the SIT Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package provide a set of skills to work hygienically when handling food and supervising the safety of food during its storage, preparation, display, service and disposal.”
