Accredited unit – SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety
Who should do this course?
Anyone who directly handles food or food contact surfaces such as cutlery, plates and bowls. This includes cooks, chefs, caterers, kitchen stewards, kitchen hands, food and beverage attendants and sometimes room attendants and front office staff.
This course applies to all tourism, hospitality and catering organisations with permanent or temporary kitchen premises or smaller food preparation or bar areas.
What does the course cover?
This is mostly a theory based course. The unit covers the skills and knowledge required to use personal hygiene practices to prevent contamination of food that might cause food-borne illnesses. It will assist food handlers to comply with the requirements contained within the Australia New Zealand Food Standards (ANZFS) Code (the Code).
How is the course delivered?
The following delivery mode options are available:
Individual Workplace Delivery
The course can be delivered one on one in the workplace. The trainer will use hard copy learning resources. Candidates undertaking this course as a workplace based delivery are required to have access to a workplace with appropriate equipment and resources, which can be assessed by contacting us.
The course can be delivered in the workplace or simulated environment to groups as a workshop. The group is directed and guided by the trainer assessor. Practical components of the course will occur and be assessed during the workshop where access to a food preparation space and equipment is available. Where access is not available during the workshop candidates are required to complete part of their assessment after the session at their workplace.
What certification will students get?
Participants that complete the course will receive a Statement of Attainment issued by AVTES including accredited unit code and title. This meets the requirements contained within the Australia New Zealand Food Standards (ANZFS) Code (the Code).
